EMPLOYMENT HISTORY
April 2007 - present: Telecare Coordinator
Adult Social Services, Barnet Council, Whetstone, London,
N20 0EJ.
• To be the main point of contact for health and social
services in Barnet for advice and support in implementing telecare.
• To be the telecare equipment expert for Barnet health
and social services staff and ensure an holistic approach is
taken.
• Keep abreast of equipment developments, current legislation,
government policies and procedures regarding telecare and associated
targets and update training, service policies and procedures
and marketing information to reflect these changes.
• Be the prime liaison person covering all telecare
aspects between Barnet Lifeline, ICES, voluntary organisations,
service users and their families and carers, and LBB, the PCT,
BEHMT and other organisations who prescribe telecare equipment.
• Provide additional support to professionals and Barnet
lifeline in devising individual service user and carer protocols,
as necessary. Responsibility to review service users’ equipment
and needs in situations where no other care is being provided,
i.e. the service user only has telecare equipment. This workload
would be managed by the coordinator with most of the service
user and carer contact and review being carried out by Barnet
Lifeline.
• Co-ordinate complaints on behalf of commissioning
organisations and prepare monthly complaints analysis. Develop
solutions to recurring complaints.
• Train staff to prescribe telecare following an agreed
training course.
• Collate the data collected by Barnet Lifeline into
monthly reports with a full annual report and ad-hoc reports,
as required by the telecare steering and project groups.
• Co-ordinate access to Smart Home venues for demonstrating
telecare products to the general public by professionals.
• Support telecare assisted House/DLC development and management
• Give telecare equipment demonstrations to members
of the public.
• Work with LBB, PCT and BEHMT marketing staff to ensure
ongoing publicity of the telecare service through up-to-date
leaflets, posters, targeted publicity campaigns, press releases,
day-in-the-life of stories, internal and external website input,
etc. Includes updating marketing materials each year, as necessary.
• Network across Barnet health, social services and
voluntary organisations and with other UK telecare services.
• Develop an information resource for each Smart House
venue which is open to service user and professional alike.

Guy is currently Co-Chair of the ‘International Medical
Informatics Association (IMIA)
working group on 'Smart
Homes and Ambient Assisted Living’ (2006-2009).
Guy has worked with a number of groups including setting
up the first smart home strategy group in Dundee, Scotland.
Guy has worked as the main co-designer for over 100 assistive
person-centred “smart” home technology projects
(including 54 dwellings in Aberdeen) which include designs
to assist disabled and older people throughout the UK.
Guy
also runs the internationally renowned ‘SMART Thinking’ educational
website (http://www.smartthinking.ukideas.com).
Guy also have written
or co-written over 100 publications and have presented papers
at a number of key conferences within the field of older
people, technology interventions and research methodologies. I
was also been nursing for over ten years before entering
the field of education.
